James R. Chastain, III Selected for Leadership Lakeland XXIX Class

(August 18, 2011) Jay Chastain, Project Manager at Chastain-Skillman, Inc. has been selected for the Leadership Lakeland XXIX class for 2011-2012.

“Chastain-Skillman is very proud of Jay’s acceptance into Leadership Lakeland, said Jim Chastain, President of Chastain-Skillman, Inc. “Leadership Lakeland will give him a greater understanding of the issues affecting Greater Lakeland and Polk County as well as provide him with the knowledge and skills necessary to make a positive impact on our community.”

The Lakeland Chamber created Leadership Lakeland in 1983 to identify and develop future leaders in the community. Leadership Lakeland is an annual program that brings together a diverse cross section of individuals, introducing them to local issues and resources within Polk County, while growing leadership skills and encouraging community service. Only 30 members are chosen each year.

Chastain-Skillman Helps Provide Telephone Communication for Tornado Victims in Alabama

 LAKELAND, FL - (June 27, 2011)  When recent tornado activity caused phone lines to go down in Northern Alabama, Chastain-Skillman, Inc. looked for a way to take action. 

Century Link, a regional cable and telecommunications provider, was having difficulty securing permission for the emergency installation of fiber optic cable, which was essential to quickly reestablishing communication to North Alabama.  Chastain-Skillman assisted Century Link in responding to state and local permitting needs necessary to proceed with this critical work.   

“When we heard about the tornados in Alabama, we immediately looked for a way to help,” said Paul Osley, Principal of EOHS Services at Chastain-Skillman, Inc.  “We are proud to have done our part to help Century Link swiftly restore communication after this natural disaster.”

Chastain-Skillman Wins Asbestos Inspection Contract for State Government Buildings

 LAKELAND, FL - (June 20, 2011)  Chastain-Skillman, one of Florida’s leading asbestos program management firms, was recently selected to provide asbestos inspection services in four key historic government buildings in Tallahassee.

 “It is a privilege to be given the opportunity to work on buildings with such historical significance,” said Paul Osley, Principal of EOHS Services at Chastain-Skillman, Inc.  “We are looking forward to working with Florida’s Department of Management Services on this project.” 

Chastain-Skillman will inspect for the presence of asbestos in the Historic Capitol Building, the New Capitol Building, the Collins Building and the Coleman Building.  They will be providing asbestos reinspection services for over 600,000 square feet of combined building space.  Asbestos program management services will begin in July.

Chastain-Skillman Hosts Ribbon Cutting at New Winter Haven Office

LAKELAND, FL - (June 10, 2011) Chastain-Skillman, Inc. officially became part of the Winter Haven community during the ribbon cutting at their new office on June 1st.

 “The ribbon cutting ceremony exceeded our expectations,” remarked Dr. Jim Chastain, President of Chastain-Skillman, Inc.  “We were proud to have many city officials and chamber members in attendance.  Their support made us feel welcome in the community.” 

Winter Haven Mayor Jeff Potter and Winter Haven Chamber President Cindy Price both spoke at the event.  Following the ceremony, guests mingled and had refreshments in one of Winter Haven’s landmarks - the historic Old Town Square building, where the new Chastain-Skillman office is located.

Chastain-Skillman is Expanding to Winter Haven

 LAKELAND, FL - (May 25, 2011) One of Lakeland’s most established engineering firms is growing once again.  Chastain-Skillman, Inc. is opening a new office in Winter Haven, Florida, to better serve East Polk County. 

“I am very excited about our new Winter Haven office,” commented Dr. Jim Chastain, President of Chastain-Skillman, Inc.  “We are looking forward to being more accessible to our Winter Haven and east Polk County clients.  We take pride in being of service to the area as Winter Haven continues to grow and develop.”

James R. Chastain, Jr., PhD, PE Honored by the Florida Engineering Society

 LAKELAND, FL - (April 4. 2011) Dr. Jim Chastain’s inventive work on several engineering projects was recognized publically at the Florida Engineering Society’s 2011 Ridge Chapter’s Annual Awards Banquet, when the Society presented him with the Outstanding Technical Achievement Award. 

The Outstanding Technical Achievement Award is given to someone who has made an innovative technical achievement that has enhanced the engineering profession and made a positive impact on the public.  “It is an honor to receive this award,” said Dr. Chastain.  “This is a reflection of a number of innovative projects that we’ve worked on over the years in which we’ve applied new research or computational techniques to create better solutions for our clients.” 

Dr. Jim Chastain, PE is president of Chastain-Skillman, Inc. and is responsible for the management of all corporate operations and provides oversight of environmental and public health projects at Chastain-Skillman, Inc.  He is a Diplomate of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and an IPEP Qualified Environmental Professional.
