Chastain-Skillman (CS) has performed numerous engineering and surveying projects on this section of reclaimed phosphate land over the past 20 years, including Grasslands Country Club community, and Oakbridge shopping plaza and residential communities. Lakeside Village is home to South Lakeland’s first shopping village, containing major anchor stores, which consists of 512,000 square feet in Phase I. CS provided land surveying, site planning engineering and permitting services for this 120-acre development located at the intersection of the Polk Parkway and Harden Blvd. in Lakeland. The reclaimed phosphate soils presented numerous engineering challenges that CS professionals addressed during this project. The buildings in this shopping village are designed to match the architectural style of downtown Lakeland. One access to the site is via a bridge featuring an arched-profile look, from the south side (Polk Parkway/ Frontage Road) featuring a European arched profile look. CS’s structural department designed this 44 ft wide and 440 ft long bridge which spans the lake on the south side of the property.
CS’s engineering design included all of the internal roadways and parking areas at the shopping center, as well as considerable improvements to the access roads and intersections surrounding the shopping center.
