The year 2015 marks 65 years of business for Chastain-Skillman, Inc. (CSI). Though the firm was small in the beginning, Roy Chastain and Joe Skillman nevertheless worked to provide a reliable local engineer resource for Polk County. Over the next few decades, the company compiled an impressive list of engineering projects ranging from work in the phosphate mining industry to local municipalities, land development projects and large commercial sites. Much of their success was due to their personalized client care and high quality, innovative designs.

Chastain-Skillman’s current President, Dr. Jim Chastain, began working at the firm while in his teens. Upon graduating from college, he returned to work with his father and has been committed to the same core values. With the help of talented partners, he has guided the firm’s expansion beyond conventional civil engineering and surveying to include environmental engineering, environmental science, containment risk management, industrial hygiene and other public health services.

Chastain-Skillman’s innovative concepts and advanced design work has played a major role in the growth and development of Polk County’s infrastructure. In fact, no other firm has completed as many engineering projects in the area as Chastain-Skillman. During the firm’s early years, they completed the engineering work for Joker Marchant Stadium, Oakbridge, Grasslands, Lakeside Village, and Main Street Realignment. More recently, the firm has played a central role in the development of Florida Polytechnic University, South Village ,the Amazon distribution center and Lake Myrtle Park.

“It is a rare thing for an engineering firm to be around as long as Chastain-Skillman. I believe that Dad and Joe Skillman would be proud that their legacy has continued. We are honored to be part of Polk County’s development over the past 65 years and are excited to continue that service with more expansive engineering and public health projects into the future”
