The Amazon facility created 385 new jobs for Polk County residents.
Chastain-Skillman provided the civil site design for Amazon’s 1.1 million SF warehouse on a 117-acre site in Lakeland, Florida.
This facility with just over 900 employee parking spaces received up to $4.5 million of property tax incentives from Polk County in return for the capital investment and creation of 385 jobs with an average annual wage of $35,820 and benefits according to County documents.
The design, permitting, and construction all occurred on a compressed schedule. Bid documents were prepared in a few weeks. A stand-up meeting with each City of Lakeland (City) department was held to expedite the typical review schedule. Earthwork began prior to full approval through a Site Alteration Permit, made possible by an existing Environmental Resource Permit.
Prior to utility construction, a site plan approval was obtained from the City. The proposed water mains were permitted with the Polk County Health Department and the gravity sewer and pumping station were permitted through the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP). An existing sewer forcemain was relocated with cooperation of the FDEP. The proposed stormwater system was permitted through the Southwest Florida Water Management District and Driveway Connection was permitted through Polk County.
Coordination with other national team members was important. Members included an architect in Ohio, a fire protection engineer in North Carolina, a contractor from Georgia, and a Fire protection contractor from Tampa.
Chastain-Skillman also designed and permitted off-site road improvements under for the City of Lakeland.
