Chastain-Skillman is providing civil engineering services for the new 30,000-SF Citrus Innovation Center on Florida Polytechnic University’s campus.

Chastain-Skillman, Inc. (CS) partnered with Ryan Companies to design the new Citrus Innovation Center at Florida Polytechnic University (FPU). CS provided the following services for the design and construction of the new 30,000-sf building:

  • Civil Site Design โ€” preparation of the civil engineering design drawings and construction specifications for the project. Construction plans included site grading and drainage, sanitary sewer and water distribution and the erosion control plan.
  • Site permitting โ€” preparation of site work permit applications for agency permits including Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) (Environmental Resource Permit), Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) (Wastewater Collection/Transmission System Permit), and the City of Lakeland (Commercial Site Plan Review)
  • Limited construction services โ€” limited on-site construction observation services during construction activities to determine if the work is proceeding in general conformance with plans.

The Citrus Innovation Center is a public-private partnership between FPU and International Flavors and Fragrances (IFF). The Center will be occupied by the IFF, which will be the first company on the FPU campus. The IFF in turn, has pledged to provide funding for FPU research, projects and programs as well as internships and job opportunities for students.

In addition, the new center will aid citrus research, which can be used for food, beverage and fragrance industries. The center will include research labs, sensory experience settings and a citrus garden.

Construction on the building started in October 2022.
