CS designed a new well and
3.2 MGD Water Production Facility
to service Polk County.
Chastain-Skillman (CS) was contracted by the Polk County Utilities Department (PCUD) to design a new well and 3.2 mgd capacity water production facility (WPF). Services also included assistance in selecting a site for the well and extensive ground water modeling in support of required modifications to the Water Use Permit.
A 16-inch diameter well, 800 feet deep with 160 feet of casing was designed and drilled. The proposed water production facility includes:
- A Well Pump
- A One-Million-Gallon Ground Storage Reservoir
- Four High-Service Pumps
- Disinfection Facilities Using Sodium Hypochlorite
- An Emergency Generator
Site features include security measures including intrusion alarms and monitoring cameras. In addition, an existing off-site well will be connected to the new water plant and existing obsolete systems at the site will be removed.
Professional services provided by Chastain-Skillman included: hydrogeology, surveying, design, permitting, modeling, preparation of construction documents, bid assistance, and construction management services including civil, mechanical, process, and structural.
This project was featured on the cover of the December 2021 issue of the Florida Water Resources Journal.
