The updated drainage channel provides both aesthetic and functional benefits to Wauchula residents.

An existing drainage channel served as a drainage area of approximately 125 acres in Wauchula from U.S. 17 east to Green Street. The channel was predominately located in a residential section of the City. Much of the channel was overgrown with large trees are is eroding into the yards of residences.

Chastain-Skillman (CS) was contracted to design improvements to the channel, including clearing of vegetation, construction of a stabilized (Geoweb) trapezoidal channel, and increase the flow capacity to handle a 50-year storm event. The project was funded by SWFWMD and State Legislative Appropriation
