Florida Southern College constructed the state-of-the-art Marshall and Vera Lea Rinker Technology Center on the east side of Ingraham Avenue. The 4,000-square foot building houses the College’s main student computer laboratory, classrooms, small group areas, and reception and technical assistance areas for students to use state-of-the-art software, hardware, and internet materials.
Chastain-Skillman (CS) provided the surveying and civil engineering services for the technology building, including topographic survey, site engineering, grading and drainage, utility design, construction observation of the site work, and record drawing preparation. Permitting for the project included City of Lakeland site plan review and the Southwest Florida Water Management District.
The urban site was redeveloped to replace the existing computer laboratory while creating Florida friendly landscaping through the use of rain gardens to reduce irrigation requirements. Site planning provisions were made for future expansion, allowing for the possibility to double the footprint.
