Chastain-Skillman (CS) was selected to provide survey and civil engineering services for the new Ring Power facility in Lakeland. The new 76,000 square foot Ring Power Store was constructed within the Waterfield Business Park at Reynolds Road and the Polk Parkway intersection with space for significant expansion. This site consolidated Lakeland’s forklift operations and Mulberry’s heavy construction equipment/Cat Rental Store operations on a 40-acre site.
Engineering services included the design and permitting of the site, grading and drainage, utility design, coordination of the fire protection system, two driveway connections, one of which required road widening for turning lane additions and resurfacing, a forcemain connection to the City’s wastewater collection system within Polk Parkway right-of-way via a 2,500-foot off-site forcemain, three directional bores installed after approval of the boring design calculations by the City, and coordination of disposition for some bad material encountered in the pond area.
Permits obtained included a Polk County Right-of-way Use Permit and a Utility Permit from the Turnpike Authority for the forcemain connection, a Florida Department of Environmental Protection permit for the wastewater collection and pumping system, an Environmental Resource Permit from the Southwest Florida Water Management District, a water main construction permit for the on-site water mains from the Polk County Health Department, and Level 2 approval from Polk County.
A noteworthy project accomplishment was CS’s obtaining the forcemain utility permit from the Turnpike Authority, a feat that few have performed recently. The combination of prompt submittals and behind-the-scenes discussions by Ring Power provided the recipe for success.
